****** INTRODUCING THE CUSTOM-WHEEL SUPASLIM *****
We are pleased to announce The Custom-Wheel SupaSlim which at only 21mm thick is a full 6mm (over 20%) slimmer than the Narrow version of the Custom-Wheel series. Now there are two versions available for all motorised wheel, one at lower cost, with onboard electronics, requiring only a 12v dc power source, and a RJ cable for serial control. The pictures above show this version (note that onboard electronics versions are now available for Narrow and Wide versions also - see price list for details):
A. CCD camera side of SupaSlim wheel, showing IR emitters at front, and electronic interface box lower right
B. Side view, showing very slim profile. The motor protrudes 30mm, but the top edge is 49mm from the centre-line of the focuser, so can be plugged into focusers of large diameter without causing obstruction
C. Motor (telescope) side of SupaSlim wheel
D. Supaslim wheel on Takahashi FS-60C, with Starlight Xpress CCD camera at rear. Note the power and serial cables plug into the bottom of the electronics interface box.

This is just about as slim as we can go! With filters inserted there is minimal clearance. Note that you must take the following precaution when inserting a loaded disk into the main body: All 'd' (dark position) wheels - make sure that the wheel is turned so that the motor pinion goes through the gap of the 'dark' position when inserting 6-way - all filters can be pre-installed in the wheel, but make sure that the motor pinion goes through a gap between adjacent filters when inserting 7 and 8 way wheels - you will have to leave one filter out in order to insert the wheel, using the vacant gap to clear the motor pinion. The last filter is then screwed in with the disk in situ
CAUTION - when removing all disks, make sure you orientate the disk to clear the motor pinion, removing a filter first in the case of 7 and 8 way wheels

G. Edge view of SS wheel disk. Note that the nylon gear is very close to the main disk. this means that for screw-in filters it is not possible to use 48mm/2" screw-in filters in this version, but we have a new SS48 version of the SupaSlim wheel, which CAN take standard 48mm screw-in filters (click HERE for details of SS48) However for 1.25" filters, all normal screw-in filters can be accommodated, and thus our standard range of wheels applies:
FW-5d for 5 x 1.25" filter + 'dark' position
FW-6 for 6 x 1.25" filter
FW-6d for 6 x 1.25" filter + 'dark' position
FW-7 for 7x 1.25" filter
FW-8 for 8 x 1.25" filter + 'dark' position
For custom 48mm/2" wheels we still offer the
FW-4d for 4 x 48mm filter + 'dark' position
FW-5 for 5 x 48mm filter
H. View of FWS-7d disk. At first glance it looks the same as before, but now the nylon gear is attached to the disk directly using M3 bolts at 120°. Actually this is a better solution than that used for the CWN, but both work perfectly !
I. SupaSlim wheel on Tak FS-60C with Starlight Xpress SXV-H9 CCD. Note the 9-D connector at bottom right of the wheel, which is the version without onboard electronics, requiring a Hand-Unit for connection and operation (see below)
J. Hand-Unit for use with motorised wheels which do not have onboard electronics. The power and serial connection are to the Hand-Unit, and connection from the Hand-Unit to the motor is via a 9-D M-F cable. The hand-Unit provides indication of wheel position, up and down control of position (one step per action of the toggle switch), and a reset button to manually initialise a wheel. K. Side view. The distance from the back of the 2" focuser to the front of the attachment plate of the ST10 is 25mm (21mm for the wheel, plus 2 x 2mm for the flanges of front and rear connectors)
L. Open Wheel, showing internal disk. Note that WITHOUT touching the telescope or camera, and without disturbing the orientation of the camera, or indeed the focus position, the SupaSlim wheel can be opened and the COMPLETE internal disk removed for changing and/or cleaning filters, or for inserting another internal disk with alternative filters (see Custom-Wheel page for details of internal wheels)
M. View showing the open wheel with internal disk removed
N. View through a 1.25" showing the large chip. contained well within the clear 25mm aperture of the filter.
O. Underview of the combination showing at top left the RJ serial connector and 2.1mm power socket for the SupaSlim wheel, and at bottom the connector panel for the ST10-XME
