Philosophy behind the ....
With the advent of Home Theatre systems, and the move towards DVD, it has become the norm for households to expect to have, at the very least, a 5.1 system, if not 7.1, for principally video use, including Television and Video, the latter being restricted to stereo (usually Nicam VHS). However, there is perhaps and paradoxically, an increasing demand for audiophile music, and by this I do not mean, and do not include MTV or DVD, but pure SOUND, without vision. Indeed vinyl is as popular as ever. The danger with most modern Home Theatre systems is that they handle the DVD/TV/Video requirements very well indeed, and provide awesome performance and huge enjoyment. But when you switch to CD, vinyl or (eg) FM radio, the resulting audio quality is not to true audiophile standard. We believe that, while some enthusiasts have totally separate systems (even separate rooms) for their Home Theatre and Hi-Fi audio, the majority of households do not, even at the fairly serious level. We perceive a need for an amplifier system which can combine the awesome finesse of DVD (especially DTS) with the purity of vinyl sound at its best, while allowing the highest performance to be obtained from ordinary CD media, as well as DVD-A and/or SACD. This system will also integrate perfectly with any computer or server based audio systems, which are another area where technology is galloping.
The hybrid GC integrated amplifier gives OUTSTANDING performance on all channels, rivalling the world's best Single Ended Triode amplifiers. By routing ALL audio, whether stereo or surround sound, through the GC amplifier, with inputs direct to the sources concerned, avoiding switching and routing through complex processors, the quality of the source is preserved in each case. Modern audio-visual processors have high performance amplifiers, but they also provide fixed and variable line signals on all channels. We are asking you to NOT use those amplifiers at all, which become redundant. Any sub-woofer(s) in the system can still take the sub output from the a-v amplifier, or via the GC amplifier which provides a separate sub output signal.
Some of you out there will know that a high quality CD transport coupled to a high performance Digital to Analog Converter, eg the Chord DAC64, can so transform the CD sound that it becomes extraordinarily close to vinyl, or indeed DVDA or SACD when played through a normal spec system..
By having no fewer than eight inputs, the GC amplifier accommodates all the things one would wish to throw at it.
